Camping in Luxembourg

For Columbus Day weekend, we went to Luxembourg to camp with some of our friends and two adorable pups. It is hard to find 'real camping' in our part of Europe. Typically, a campsite in Germany consists of a couple hundred campers and RVs parked right next to each other. Tent camping is almost nonexistent.

I was able to find this campsite in Echternach, Luxembourg. Typically, they have 3 different sites available~ one for long-term campers (7 months+), one tent-only campsite for younger people, and a mixed campsite for both. Since we were camping at the end of the season, the tent-only site was already closed, so we were in the mixed site which was virtually empty.

"Camping Officiel" was very nice, with light poles at every site, optional electric hook-ups, clean and free restrooms and showers, and it was very close to many trails. I highly recommend the campsite, and look forward to renting one of the adorable Finnish Kuschelkotas or a Camping-Fass.

I think we all agreed that these Kotas were incredibly adorable. I genuinely want to build one of these in the future. We had visions of a winery, with these as guest houses on the property. What do you think?

We were all rockstars at cooking (and drinking) on this trip. Our breakfasts were out-of-this-world. We had French Toast, bacon, and eggs...for one breakfast! The next morning we did a scramble and pancakes. It was a feast for kings. I don't think I have ever eaten so well on a camping trip. And it is all thanks to our great camp stove. Our friends brought their fire pit, and we had some great fires (and s'mores) both nights. As a general rule, open fires aren't allowed in Europe.

The trails leading from our campsite are part of the Mullerthal Trail network. It was a great place to be, as Echternach is the oldest city in Luxembourg, the capital of the Mullerthal region, and the surrounding area is beautiful. This area is commonly referred to as "Little Switzerland," due to the scenery and rock formations. We barely scraped the surface of the area, so I look forward to returning.

We made quite a few Hotty Toddy's to combat the cold. We also had some Glühwein to kick off the fall season.
